Biography

Aashish graduated from North Carolina State University with a Master’s degree in Economics and joined NCICS in June 2024. His passion lies in utilizing advanced econometric and statistical methods to solve the problems of society. During his graduate studies, Aashish worked for UScellular in their Analytics & Automation team, where he developed a handset anomaly detection system using machine learning algorithms for the core engineering team. His research focuses on applying economic analysis to assess the value of the data captured and stored by NOAA. In addition, he collaborates with the NESDIS team to rescue GOES imagery data and preserve it for future use.

Prior to earning his graduate degree, Aashish completed his undergraduate studies in Petroleum Engineering at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology in Amethi, India. During this time, he applied machine learning methods to address challenges in the oil and gas and financial markets sectors. Specifically, he built a real-time subsurface rock classifier for informing drillers about current drilling conditions. Additionally, Aashish conducted a comparative analysis of recurrent neural networks and econometric models for forecasting the volatility of the India VIX index, and published both studies in peer-reviewed journals. In his free time, Aashish likes to listen to podcasts, play volleyball, and work out in the gym.
