Biography

Mya joined NCICS as an Outreach and Engagement Specialist in July 2023.

In 2021, Mya earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma. During her time at OU, she conducted research on hail sizing algorithms and participated in the TORUS field campaign to study tornadogenesis in supercells. She also completed a Hollings internship at NCICS, where she studied vulnerability to climate change in Puerto Rico.

In 2023, Mya earned her M.S. from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, where she worked as a graduate teaching assistant and research assistant. For her master's thesis, she conducted community-driven research on extreme precipitation and flooding on the north shore of the Hawaiian Island of Kauaʻi. She also participated in the PRECIP field campaign to study rainfall extremes in the Western Pacific.
